Third Annual Golf Tournament Fundraiser a Success
Picture this: May 12, 2001, a warm, pleasant day, nearly 60 golfers meet at the Reston National Golf Club in Virginia to play for Karuna Charities’ fundraiser for the disadvantaged in the U.S., India, and other countries. The beautiful day ends with dinner at the White Tiger Restaurant in Vienna, Virginia attended by over 150 enthusiastic supporters of Karuna’s good cause.
The winning golfers were Sanjeev Anand, Sumant Anand, Tinu Pania, and Brian Kosen. Special prizes went to H.S. Asghar and Mike Bedi.
That evening, D.J. Hemant had everyone twirling on the dance floor at White Tiger. The entertaining aucutioneer Raja Bhandari auctioned the Air India round-trip ticket to India to Roma S. Chandra. To add to the enjoyment of the event, Millie Singh did a Gidda from the Punjab and members of her troupe sang songs from old Hindi movies. Dinner prizes were donated by the Bombay Palace, Bombay Tandoor, and White Tiger restaurants.
On a serious note, the supporters of Karuna got a brief roundup of Karuna’s recent activities from the president, Amrit Kalotra, the driving force behind this immensely successful fundraiser. A special guest at this event who flew in from Austria, was Lekha Sreenivasan founder chairperson of Karuna Charities Washington, Inc. A part of the proceeds from this fundraiser will go towards Gujarat earthquake relief.
Grand sponsors of the event were Air India, Hughes Network Systems (Pradman Kaul, CEO and President), and Verner Liipfert, Bernhardt, McPherson, and Hand, Chartered.
Sponsors were State Bank of India and I.B.T.C.I (Jayant Kalotra).
