Second Annual Golf Tournament for Worthy Cause

Karuna Charities’ Second Annual Golf Tournament was held at the Reston National Golf Club, Reston, Virginia on Sunday, May 7, 2000.

The players were very enthusiastic despite a very hot day.  It was evident that supporting a worthy cause had put them in great spirits.

At 1:00 p.m., after a snack lunch, the keen golfers were welcomed by Karuna Charities’ president, Lekha Sreenivasan.  The 59 golfers were flagged off to a cheery start by Amrit Kalotra.  Reeti Bedi, the coordinator of the tournament was among the happy golfers.  

The well-deserving winners were as follows:

Later, Karuna Charities hosted a very well attended dinner at the Indian Embassy where Ms. Nilima Mehra was the master-of-ceremonies.  The prizes were distributed to the winners amongst much clapping.  The guests and Karuna members were entertained by Hemant and his fellow musicians.  Mrs. Promilla Banik conducted the lucky prize draw.

The superb dinner was catered by Bombay Tandoor.

Part of the proceeds from the golf tournament will go towards sponsoring one child for a 45-minute cleft lip operation to be conducted in Jamshedpur, India in November-December by the world’s premier not-for-profit volunteer medical service organization, Operation Smile.
